LAGOS STATE APPEALS PROJECT

Lagos APPEALS was established in 2018 to cater for three (3) prominent and commercially valuable agricultural value chains: Aquaculture, Poultry and Rice. The State project is headed by Mrs. Oluranti Oviebo and supported by very hardworking principal officers.

The Project since inception has supported over 6,000 farmers with matching grant. Among is the blast freezing technology in the 3 senatorial districts for both poultry and aquaculture. Also, the cage culture and the all-male Tilapia. The Project also work on multiple utilization of fish. 28 technologies were demonstrated for the 3-priority value chain.

The State project has supported 1,738 women and youth beneficiaries as well as people living with disability. Very prominent and worthy of recommendation is the Blast freezing technology and Cage culture.

The project also constructed 13.16 km of access link Road, rehabilitated 15 cottage processing centres as well as clusters of agribusinesses all over the state.

In order to consolidate the gains of the project and for sustainability of its activities in Lagos State, the Lagos State APPEALS designed a sustainability programme that will further give succour to the farmers in Lagos State by providing access to cheap funds and markets and strengthen market linkages.

ACHIEVEMENTS

In terms of livelihood enhancement, the Project has empowered 55,864 direct beneficiaries; with 10,307 women and youth beneficiaries trained and 8,535 Business Investment Plans (BIPs) implemented under the Women and Youth Empowerment Program (WYEP).

The Project has linked 200 agribusiness clusters to infrastructures such as boreholes, tube wells, and box culverts across the participating states. A total of 16 Aggregation and Cottage Processing Centres have been completed while 59 are at varying levels of construction across the participating States to make a total of 90 aggregation centres expected to be built at the end line. About 13.6km out of the target 80km of rural access roads have been completed while water and energy infrastructure linked to production and processing clusters are at various stages of construction and are to be completed by March 30, 2023.

The project has continued to contribute to the national food basket across the different value chains in the year under review with significant increase in the output of the commodities when compared with the last mission’s figures. For instance, cocoa output increased by 129.01%, while poultry egg, cassava, rice and poultry meat increased by 48.3%, 24.7%, 23.8%, and 7.6% respectively.
